COT:
Williams flew a F9F-5 Panther in the Korean War and is credited with the longest dogfight in history. He was swarmed by 7 MiG-15s in 1952 and shot down 4 in the 35-minute fight. No other American ever shot down 4 MiG-15s in one fight. His plane received 260 bullet holes and came back with no fuel and no ammo. It was classified for over 50 years, making him ineligible for the Medal of Honor until 2025, thanks to the new “Valor Has No Expiration Act”. President Trump called the 100-year old Williams with the news to personally tell him he is receiving the nation’s highest award for valor. Williams was awarded the Silver Star Medal in 1953, upgraded to the Navy Cross in 2023.
