THE THANG:
The 8-Station Heavy Metal Circuit
Each station lasts 4 minutes. Rotate clockwise. 1-minute transition/mosey between stations.
Station 1: The Engine Room (Sled)
• The Move: Sled Push down 20 yards / Sled Drag back.
• The Flow: If two PAX are here, one pushes down and back, while the other performs “Active Recovery” (Plank).
Station 2: The Mace Mastery (7# & 15# Maces)
• The Move: Grave Diggers (alternating shoveling motion, Right and Left)
• The Flow: One PAX takes the 7#, one takes the 15#. Swap weights every interval to challenge the grip and shoulders.
Station 3: The Heavy Payload (100# & 125# Sandbags)
• The Move: Sandbag Bear Hug Squats or Shouldering.
• The Flow: These are the “beasts.” Focus on slow, controlled, explosive power. Switch bags halfway through the 4-minute block.
Station 4: The Clean & Toss (40#, 60#, 80# Sandbags)
• The Move: Sandbag Clean and Toss (over the shoulder or forward).
• The Flow: With three bags here, there’s plenty of variety. Focus on hip extension and “tossing” the weight behind you.
Station 5: The Block Party (Cinder Block)
• The Move: Block “Burpees” (Hands on block, jump back, jump in, overhead press).
• The Flow: High-volume metabolic conditioning.
Station 6: The Ruck Sack Rumble
• The Move: Ruck Lunges (Overhead or Front-racked).
• The Flow: Keeping the ruck high forces the core to stabilize against the shifting weight.
Station 7: The Bodyweight Burn (The “Grinder”)
• The Move: Hand-Release Pushups.
• The Flow: No equipment here—just pure intensity to keep the heart rate up while waiting for the heavy gear stations.
Station 8: The Core Stabilizer
• The Move: Ruck-Weighted Mountain Climbers or “Big Boy” Sit-ups.
• The Flow: Focus on breath control and keeping the spine neutral under the ruck weight.
MARY
LBCs: 20x
Plank: Hold for the final 60 seconds
American Hammers: 20x (In cadence)
CIRCLE OF TRUST – The Theme: “The Awkward Load & The Fluid Lead”
Look at the gear we used today. A steel mace isn’t a balanced barbell. A 125# sandbag isn’t a calibrated plate. These things are ‘ugly.’ They shift. They pull you off-balance. If you try to fight a 15-pound mace with raw, rigid muscle, you’ll tear a shoulder. If you try to manhandle a heavy sandbag without finding its center of gravity, it’ll crush your spirit before it crushes your back.
Life rarely hands us a ‘perfectly balanced’ day. It hands us an ‘awkward load’, a sudden crisis at work, a strained relationship, or a health scare. Most men try to handle these with ‘show muscle’ and rigidly control every variable, getting exhausted because they’re fighting the momentum of things they can’t change.
To be a leader, you need Functional Readiness. That means having the ‘core strength’ to stand your ground, but the ‘fluidity’ to swing with the momentum. You have to know when to grip tight and when to let the weight find its flow so you can redirect it.
We don’t train with this weird gear just to look good. We train with it so that when life throws us a ‘shifting weight,’ we don’t snap. We want to be the men who can carry the heavy, ugly stuff for our families without losing our balance.
I want to discuss this question: “Where in your life right now are you trying to ‘bench press’ a problem that actually requires you to ‘swing’ with it? Where do you need to stop being rigid and start being functional?”
