COT:
As we prepare for the New Year, we always have a choice in which direction we will take any decision. We must always decide wisely who we will serve and who we will follow to be good leaders and examples for our family, our community, and our world. This reminds me of a story I once read and feels like a great reflection going into the new year.
Long ago, a very wealthy man lived in a spacious castle near a small village. He had vaults full of gold and silver, and his estate stretched on for many miles.
One day, the man came into the village and announced that he had built a giant maze on his property. The walls were very high, and the maze stretched out over several hundred acres. He had placed all of his gold and silver in the center of the maze, and any man who could get to it could have everything.
Since the village was very poor, many men said goodbye to their families and set out to find the treasure. After several weeks, a few men began to emerge from the maze. They told of some dying and others going insane from being hopelessly lost.
One day, a young man stood at the entrance, contemplating his own journey, when he heard a voice behind him say, “Are you going in alone?” Startled, the young man turned and saw an elderly gentleman behind him. “No, I am afraid of what might happen to me there,” said the young man.
The old man said, “My son, I built that maze, and I have the map. I know every corner and tunnel. You can follow me, and I will lead you straight to the treasure. Now stay close and walk in my path.”
The young man would benefit from walking through the maze with its creator.
We have the benefit of following the maker and crater every day through life’s twists and turns. We have the choice.
