The BackBlast:

Three years. That’s how long YHC has been involved with F3; and with the Anniversary date passed (November 13th, 2017; first contact), YHC decided to put himself on the Q Sheet for (what would be) a most memorable beatdown event. It started with an EC Ruck with Flo and Ditka, where we set out on a brisk pace, and learned that Flo may have a torn lens in his left eye after some foul debris sullied his vision. When we arrived back at the #ShovelFlag, we were greeted by various PAX (some rolling in hot, some not). YHC dispensed a quick but meaningful disclaimer, and we were off across the fields for…

  • Motivators1 (5 -> 1)
  • 3 Burpees
  • Negative Merkins x 15 (IC)
  • 3 Burpees
  • Negative Squats x 15 (IC)
  • 3 Burpees
  • Negative Lunges x 10 (IC)
  • 3 Burpees

Mosey over to the concrete for…

  • Negative Dips x 20 (IC)

Let the record show: Any exercise marked “Negative X” simply means that the exercise was held in the negative position for the cadence count of 1-2-3, and then extended on the repetition count from the PAX. Example: Negative Merkins would be held in the 6″ plank position for a cadence count of 1-2-3 by the Q, and then for the repetition count of “one” by the PAX, you extend your arms, locking at the top of the Merkin, then return to a 6″ plank for the next cadence count, etc.

With cores fully warmed, we were ready to roll right into…

The Thang:

Initially slated for three sections, The Thang was broken down into the following:

  • Revolution 1
    • 10 Lateral Lunges
    • 15 BBSU
    • 15 Flutter Kicks
    • 50 m Lunge walk
  • Revolution 2
    • 10 Hand Release Merkins
    • 15 LBCs (IC)
    • 15 American Hammers
    • 50 m Bearcrawl

Sadly, a massive influx of biting wind and chilly rain came in, drenching our position, and leaving us exposed (and cold) to the elements2. As such, YHC called (for the first time EVER) an audible, and we moseyed over to the bathroom area for a modified Revolution 3…

  • Revolution 3 (modified)
    • 30s Wall-sit
    • 20s Balls to the Wall
    • 5 Burpees OYO

In the spirit of keeping the PAX dry, along with the camaraderie of being in tight quarters, we finished off 6MoM at the bathrooms, with the following…

  • LBC x 30 (IC)
  • LSF x 30 (IC)
  • Homer and Marge
  • Freddy Mercury x 10 (IC)
  • American Hammer (Little Drummer Boy edition) x 20 (IC)

  • Turkey Burner; November 27th, at 0530. Bring a 30# pack, and be prepared for a solid 12 mile ruck. It’s gonna hurt, but you gotta work off that Turkey somehow, right?
  • Flo’s VQ next Saturday at Abduction

YHC took us out with a reminder that two years ago, YHC went through a massive depression, of which it seemed there was no escape and no reprieve. Yet, it was only those brother I surrounded myself with, whom I was able to rely on, that helped me get out of that pit. When a man drops down into a valley, it’s nearly impossible for him to get himself out. He needs the help of brothers around him. I have attempted (to the best of my ability) to embody the spirit of Proverbs 27:17 – “As Iron Sharpens Iron, so one Man sharpens another”, and F3 has helped me do just that.

Naked Man Moleskin:

  1. YHC absolutely botched the cadence call for a couple rounds of this…
  2. Forecasts in Colorado are deceitful
